African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC)

WCMS is pleased to have an African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) made up of parents and school staff that advises in support of the continued success of Black/African American students at our school.  WCMS also has a parent representative on the District’s African American Site Advisory Team (AASAT).  In addition, WCMS collaborates with the local organization Parents of African American Students Studying Chinese (PAASC)

Recent activities of the AAPAC at WCMS include advising on the spending of District funds for African American student achievement, helping to plan authentic Black History Month learning activities, participating in Richmond’s annual Juneteenth Festival and supporting outreach to the local Black/African American community for student enrollment.  If you would like more information about our school’s African American Parent Advisory Council or to become involved, please reach out to our AAPAC Parent Lead, Ebony Blake, at eblake@wccysb.org or call 510-307-4523.

The West Contra Costa Unified School District also has an Office of African American Student Achievement and families can sign up for the office’s newsletter.  (WCMS is pleased to have had a great article written about it in their January 2021 newsletter!).
